Mike Huckabee, who announced his candidacy for president this morning in Hope, Ark., tells The Daily Signal this election will be dominated equally by foreign policy and the “economics of the working-class people” in America.
Huckabee, the former Arkansas governor, spoke with The Daily Signal during a recent trip to Iowa. He is the sixth Republican to formally enter the 2016 race.
“Wages have been stagnant for the bottom 90 percent of Americans for 40 years,” Huckabee says. “With all the talk of the economy in recovery, I’m talking to Americans every day whose economy is not recovering. They’re working harder than they were a year ago, two, three, four years ago but they’re not better off.”
This is Huckabee’s second presidential run. As a candidate in 2008, he used his strong ties to evangelicals to win Iowa’s Republican caucuses and place second in South Carolina’s Republican primary. He withdrew from the race in March 2008.
