There is no doubt that MAHA Moms helped secure the election for Republicans in 2024 when Robert F. Kennedy Jr. endorsed Donald Trump. Now, ahead of the midterm election, Americans are looking to their congressional representatives to continue to prioritize Making America Healthy Again.
Democrats claimed they would be the party to deliver health and wellness, but after years of failed policies, voters looked to the right.
While this administration has had major MAHA wins, like increasing consumption of real food, lowering obesity rates, and investing in regenerative farming, this voting bloc is not guaranteed to vote Republican in November.
Alex Clark, a health and wellness podcaster, identifies MAHA as made up of a lot of parents with sick children, or just everyday Americans, who notice it’s not normal to always feel depressed or anxious.
“It’s common. It’s not normal,” she said on the Heritage Action podcast. “It’s not normal to be morbidly obese at 30 years old. It’s not normal to have your 12-year-old son diagnosed with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. It’s not normal to have a seven-year-old put on Lexapro. You know, these are people that are fed up.”
“You have people that are seeking answers and they’re willing to vote for whichever politician or administration is going to take on these issues, because health is nonpartisan. To have health is to have freedom and it affects everyone,” she continued.

This is what Clare Ath, a MAHA Mom and founder of Vita et Terra, a conservative Catholic environmental nonprofit that champions care for creation, is concerned about.
“We’re starting to see AOC, and now even this week Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan, they’re starting to talk about MAHA-style concerns, and that they’re going to ban pesticides and they’re going to do these things,” Ath told the Daily Signal.
“It is really important for conservative moms to remember that while that’s great that they’re saying they support an environmental health agenda, you have to look at the big picture and the other things that they are proposing are very detrimental. They’re radical socialists,” Ath warned.
“It would be a very big mistake to forget about MAHA and leave this coalition behind as we head into the midterms,” she continued.
Democrats Make Their MAHA Pitch
El-Sayed, the Democrat with ties to socialists running for Senate in Michigan, recently announced his plan to Build a Healthier America, which is now being dubbed BAHA.
“Our food and water are making us sick, and everyone in Washington knows it. So many Americans see that corporate influence pushes the mass production of ultra-processed food and the overuse of pesticides that pollute our water and drive up rates of chronic disease and cancer,” the press release read.
El-Sayed promises to introduce legislation to remove toxins from food, put farmers over chemical companies, get lead and microplastics out of water, provide healthy school lunches, integrate food into healthcare, and oppose liability shields that protect chemical companies.
Democratic members of Congress have also been more vocal about MAHA policies, including Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York and Chellie Pingree of Maine, and Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey.
The Coalition Both Parties Want
According to a recent KFF policy research poll, more than 20% of Democrats and more than 40% of all U.S. adults support the Make America Healthy Again movement. These voters want to see more regulation of chemical additives in food and the pesticides used by farmers, and they do not trust Big Ag or Big Pharma.
Dan West, director of government relations at Heritage Action, says for this reason they have been following MAHA closely.
“This is a coalitional force that’s important and needs to be cultivated, and that you can’t just come around and like try to knock and say hi for every two years or four years,” West told the Daily Signal.
West said their MAHA key votes, congressional votes they track to hold lawmakers accountable for their positions on conservative priorities, are the ones that have gotten the most engagement from their grassroots on.
Heritage Action has worked with Rep. Keith Self, R-Texas, to remove soda from SNAP eligibility, and with Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., to remove pesticide liability shields.
West said he believes MAHA “is trying to restore some sort of holistic understanding of what medicine is supposed to be. It’s supposed to be preventative, not just caring for the creation of more sick people.”
This year, MAHA Action, the grassroots organization led by Tony Lyons, has endorsed 15 Republicans running for U.S. Congress and two Republican governors. MAHA Action says it seeks to drive positive change to shape health, well-being, and prosperity for all Americans and is working to make MAHA a top priority in the midterms.
