James Braid, White House director of legislative affairs, is stepping down, Vice President JD Vance confirmed early Thursday morning following reports of his departure. With the midterms looming, the White House is losing its ears and eyes inside the halls of Congress and will need to replace him quickly.

“James Braid had one of the toughest jobs in the entire Administration as White House Legislative Director and delivered for President Trump at every turn,” Vance wrote on social media, confirming the departure.

Vance noted the “critical role” Braid played in the administration’s achievements in Congress, including the One Big Beautiful Bill, immigration policy, reopening the government, cryptocurrency legislation, and swift Cabinet confirmations.

Vance and Braid have a long working history, as Braid served as Vance’s top policy aide during his Senate days. His lengthy MAGA résumé, including work in the first Trump administration and for the House Freedom Caucus, helped secure him the role and the wins.

President Donald Trump soon joined in thanking Braid for his service and for helping deliver what Trump called the “most successful Republican Congress in history.”

“James has played a critical role in our many accomplishments with Congress, including The One Big Beautiful Bill, beating the Democrats in two shutdown showdowns, passing the GENIUS Act, defeating a record number of War Powers resolutions, and the confirmation of my Cabinet at the fastest rate in decades,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“James Braid has served his country with distinction and led the White House’s Office of Legislative Affairs with extraordinary skill,” House Speaker Mike Johnson wrote.

“His great friendship, unwavering commitment, and tireless work ethic have helped House and Senate Republicans advance President Trump’s America First agenda in spite of our razor-thin majorities, and he has played an essential role in delivering historic results for the American people. We wish James, his wife Melissa, and their family all the best in their next chapter,” he concluded.

Braid has not confirmed his next move or whether he will continue to serve in the Republican Party. However, given his long relationship with the vice president, many speculate he is preparing to help Vance run for president in 2028. Vance and Johnson both noted they look forward and wish him well on what he does next.

Congress has a lot on its agenda when lawmakers return in September. In order to continue the “most successful Republican Congress in history,” as Trump claims, the White House will need to appoint a new director of legislative affairs quickly.

Today, even with President Trump’s victory, leftist elites have their tentacles in every aspect of our government.

The Daily Signal’s own Tyler O’Neil exposes this leftist cabal in his new book, The Woketopus: The Dark Money Cabal Manipulating the Federal Government.

In this book, O’Neil reveals how the Left’s NGO apparatus pursues its woke agenda, maneuvering like an octopus by circumventing Congress and entrenching its interests in the federal government.
