With Midterms in View, Democrat Committee Outraises GOP Counterpart

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is outpacing the National Republican Congressional Committee in fundraising, according to recent campaign finance disclosures. They show that at the end of April, the DCCC had hauled in $1 million more than its Republican counterpart.

In total, the DCCC raised $8.1 million, compared with the NRCC’s $7 million. 

This snapshot of the fundraising numbers come as the 2026 midterm elections are shaping up, as usual, to be a fierce battle. Historically, midterm elections favor the party out of power, and Republicans currently hold slender margins in both the House and the Senate. Republicans hold 220 seats in the House and need at least 218 to maintain a majority in the 435-seat chamber. In the Senate, the GOP holds 53 of 100 seats.

Despite historical winds at their back, Democrats have struggled with their messaging since the November 2024 elections, especially with new revelations about President Joe Biden’s mental decline during his time in office.  

Democrats have also attempted to portray the GOP as the party of the “oligarchs,” even as the latest fundraising numbers show a party awash in millions more dollars than the Republicans. For example, the DCCC has $32.9 million in the bank, far ahead of the NRCC’s $20.3 million, as of April 30 disclosures. The DCCC, however, also has $4 million of debts. The NRCC currently does not have any debt.

Democrat-aligned interests are additionally facing some heat about their fundraising practices in general. ActBlue, one of the largest fundraisers for the Democratic Party, is facing a potential House investigation of its fraud-prevention practices. 

An ActBlue spokesperson told The Daily Signal, “As we have historically done, ActBlue will continue to respond to requests from the House committees.”

The NRCC’s financial deficit vis-à-vis its Democrat counterpart occurred in part because it is also spending more money, $10.5 million compared with the $9 million spent by its Democratic counterpart.

On the Senate side, Republicans had the advantage. The National Republican Senatorial Committee amassed $8.3 million, compared with the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee’s $5.6 million. The GOP Senate group has also spent less than its Democratic counterpart, $5.6 million versus $6.7 million.

Keeping the Senate in GOP hands through the end of President Donald Trump’s second term will be vital if he hopes to replace more federal court judges and rein in the federal bureaucracy through a combination of cuts and strategic political appointments. 

Even on the Senate side, though, there are signs of potential trouble. The Democratic Senate fundraising group has more money in the bank, $13 million, compared with just $6.3 million for the NRSC.
