PHILADELPHIA—Democrats didn’t shy away from the issue of gender identity and public restrooms at the Democratic National Convention, turning what used to be a women’s restroom inside the Wells Fargo Center into an all-gender restroom.
The Daily Signal observed both men and women using the facility, seemingly paying little mind to the sex of the person standing next to them.
Gender identity and its application to showers, locker rooms, and bathrooms became prominent in May, when the Obama administration issued a directive to the nation’s schools. It mandated that schools allow transgender students to use the facilities that correspond with their gender identity—or risk loss of federal funds.
The Daily Signal asked delegates and other convention attendees what they think of the larger bathroom battle, in which conservatives are resisting liberals’ attempt to make some restrooms, showers, and locker rooms gender-neutral.
