After spending harrowing months imprisoned in Sudan for refusing to renounce her Christian faith, Meriam Ibrahim Ishag last night appeared on Fox News’ “The Kelly File” in her first television interview since her release.
“Faith means life,” Ishag told host Megyn Kelly. “If you don’t have faith, you’re not alive.”
Answering Kelly’s questions through a translator, Ishag talked about how her Christian beliefs guided her through the time Sudanese officials forced her to give birth to her second child, Maya, behind bars.
Ishag, a native of Sudan, had been charged with and convicted of adultery and apostasy for marrying a Christian and refusing to convert to Islam. A Sudanese court sentenced the young mother to 100 lashes and death by hanging.
An appeals court overturned her sentence, and Ishag was freed in June. Now, she resides in New Hampshire with her husband, U.S. citizen Daniel Wani, their son Martin and daughter Maya.
