Gov. Kemp Announces $1.2B Pirelli Investment in the Peach State

Gov. Brian Kemp on Tuesday announced the expansion and investment of Pirelli, a company with roots in Italy, into the Peach State.

Created in 1872, Pirelli is one of the world’s largest tire makers, creating products and services for automobiles, motorcycles, and bicycles. It has been the “Global Tire Partner of the Formula 1 World Championship” since 2011 and is well known for its advanced technologies, manufacturing, and desire to deliver results from advanced ideas.

While the company was founded in Italy, it expanded into the Peach State in 2002, setting its American headquarters in Rome, Georgia. It currently employs 234 Georgians through its manufacturing and headquarters operations in the state.

“Pirelli was one of the early companies to help build Georgia’s automotive supply chain, and more than two decades later, they are continuing to believe in Georgia and invest in their future here,” Georgia Department of Economic Development Commissioner Pat Wilson said of the economic news.

In a press release, Kemp commented on the value that Pirelli brings to the Peach State, saying, “For over two decades, Pirelli has been a valued presence in our state, and I’m thankful that our efforts to grow this partnership are paying off with even more jobs for hardworking Georgians.”

“This historic investment will expand Pirelli’s footprint with roughly five times more positions than they currently employ across the region, and we wish them continued success here in the No. 1 state for business,” the governor continued.

Located at 100 Pirelli Drive in Rome, the tire company plans to enlarge its footprint in two stages: the first involves adding the newest robotics equipment, and the second is expanding its traditional manufacturing process, “which will require more hiring.”

Claudio Zanardo, CEO of Pirelli North America, commented on its U.S. operations, saying, “The U.S. is one of Pirelli’s most important markets and offers significant opportunities for growth.”

“The expansion of our Rome facility strengthens our ‘local for local’ strategy, increasing our manufacturing capacity in the U.S. while introducing the latest-generation technologies, such as the Cyber Tyre, and advanced robotics. This investment will allow us to better serve the needs of the local market, create new jobs, and further strengthen Pirelli’s presence in North America.”

Pirelli plans to start the majority of its hiring in 2029. The facility is expected to be completely operational in 2033.
