During South Carolina’s Republican Senate primary debate on Tuesday, the sister of former Sen. Lindsey Graham failed to answer a national security question when asked by the moderator, admitting “national security is not my thing.”

“Are Taiwan and the South China Sea national security threats to the United States, and if so, why?” the moderator asked.

“I’m just gonna be honest here, I’m not that informed on national security, so … but I do support the military,” said Graham, who was appointed to the position by South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster in July.

“National security is not my thing,” Graham continued.

In the debate, she also mistakenly said South Carolina has a population of 50 million, instead of the correct figure of roughly 5.5 million.

Debate moderators repeatedly pressed Graham on foreign policy issues, to which she seemed to respond by deferring to the president’s decision-making.

“I fully trust President Trump when it comes to the war in Iran,” Graham stated, before adding that “Iran is the weakest they have been in 47 years. “The one thing that concerns me is we cannot let them get a nuclear weapon. So I trust President Trump and everything he’s doing. I think he’s got this, and I trust him on it.”

However, in contrast to her late brother, Graham repeatedly expressed that she is not in favor of unnecessary military escalations that could jeopardize American troops.

After her opponent, Rep. Ralph Norman, R-S.C., declared that the U.S. had to exhibit “peace through strength” to prevent the invasion of Taiwan, and even hinted at a military escalation in the Middle East to defeat Iran, Graham expressed her concerns.

“[I am] concerned about troops on the ground,” Graham said. “I don’t know that that’s necessary just yet. I would like to make sure that we try all economic solutions before we put troops on the ground.”

Following the debate, Norman told reporters that “by her choice, she’s running for the United States Senate,” which, he added, is a six-year term and that one “need[s] to get fully versed in what issues you’re going to be dealing with.”

Graham and Norman did not reply to The Daily Signal’s request for comment. The two face off in the special election runoff on Aug. 25.

In this book, O’Neil reveals how the Left’s NGO apparatus pursues its woke agenda, maneuvering like an octopus by circumventing Congress and entrenching its interests in the federal government.
