Ken Paxton Launches College Student Initiative Ahead of Texas Senate Race 

Texas Attorney General and U.S. Senate candidate Ken Paxton has announced the launch of a statewide grassroots initiative aimed at getting college students involved in his campaign. 

In a Monday press release, Paxton’s campaign announced the launch of 11 Students for Paxton chapters at Texas colleges and universities.

The college chapters will serve as hubs for students to get involved in the campaign, recruit classmates, register and mobilize voters, and volunteer in their communities. 

“I am incredibly proud to have students across our state stepping up to fight for the future of Texas. These young conservatives understand what is at stake, and with their help, we are going to win this election, keep Texas red, and make sure the next generation inherits a strong America,” Paxton said in the press release.

Students who started Students for Paxton chapters also released statements expressing their support for Paxton and saying they believe he will be a leader and fighter for Texans. 

“I want a senator who will unapologetically protect life and reject senseless immigration policies that fail to protect young women like me. I am excited for the opportunity to lead students in Baylor’s Students for Paxton chapter,” a girl named Grace, the Students for Paxton chapter president at Baylor University, said in the press release. “Now more than ever, our generation needs leaders who will stand up for and uphold Christian and true Texan values in D.C. I trust Ken Paxton to do just that.”

Alexis, the president of the Students for Paxton chapter at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, also shared her confidence in Paxton representing her and others in the Senate. 

“Attorney General Paxton has proven that he isn’t afraid to fight the swamp and fight for the Texas we deserve. He’s fought to secure our southern border, defended our constitutional freedoms, and taken on the rising threat of Big Pharma,” Alexis said. “Young conservatives want a fighter in the U.S. Senate who will end the status quo, put America first, and fight for the future of our generation. I know Ken Paxton is that person.” 

The colleges include Southern Methodist University, Texas Christian University, Baylor University, Texas Tech University, the University of Texas at Austin, Texas A&M University, the University of North Texas, the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, Tarleton State University, Texas State University, and Angelo State University.

Paxton is locked in a tight race with his Democrat opponent, James Talarico.  

According to recent polling, Talarico has a slight lead. However, an Emerson College Poll recently found that Paxton has a one-point edge over Talarico among likely voters.

President Donald Trump is also taking an active role in Texas’ Senate race. Trump announced he will spend “a lot of time in Texas.” 

“We have a very good candidate, Ken Paxton, and he’s running against Tal-a-freak-o, they call him, because he is a little freaky. And that’s not a man who represents the values of Texas,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office. “So, I’m going to help Ken Paxton, and I’m going to spend a lot of time in Texas.” 

Additionally, the Republican National Committee will host a midterm convention in Dallas in September in hopes of gaining momentum in close races across the state and country.

The Talarico campaign did not respond to a Daily Signal request for comment.
