Canada’s Largest Retail Store Pulls Ivanka Trump’s Clothing Line

Canada’s Hudson Bay Co. has pulled Ivanka Trump’s fashion line from its website and says it plans to slowly phase out its sale of her clothing, shoes, and other merchandise from its stores.

Hudson Bay, which owns Saks Fifth Avenue and Lord and Taylor in the U.S., is Canada’s largest department store chain, and abruptly removed Trump’s line from its website Friday.

“Hudson’s Bay is phasing out this brand through the fall based on its performance,” the company said in a statement. “As part of our regular course of business, we review our merchandise offerings and make appropriate changes,” according to The New York Times.

The retailer has been the target of several campaigns that urge customers to avoid retailers that sell anything with the Trump name, most notably the #GrabYourWallet movement.

Shannon Coulter started this movement in 2016 as a way for people to protest President Donald Trump’s election by boycotting any company that does business with his family.

Coulter has been successful, and as a result, brands such as Nordstrom, Jet.com, and Gilt pulled the Ivanka Trump fashion line in 2017.

Trump’s line has been pulled from other stores in recent months as well, including Neiman Marcus. Saks Fifth Avenue has listed fewer and fewer of her products on its website, and what is left is being offered with at least a 50 percent discount.

Hudson Bay insists it was planning to drop the line in 2017, but the timing is notable given the current political climate between the U.S. president and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

While Ivanka Trump is no longer in a management position for the company and is listed solely as a founder on the website, she still collected $5 million from it in 2017.
