Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Gifted $2 Million for Transgender Patient Care

The CEO of a sex toy company gave $2 million dollars to the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital to be allocated for transgender patient care.

“Studies show that (LGBTQ+) youth are almost five times as likely to have attempted suicide compared to heterosexual youth,” said Pure Romance CEO Chris Cicchinelli, The Enquirer reports. Pure Romance “manufactures and markets sex toys and relationship-enhancement products,” according to its company description.

Cicchinelli and his wife decided to make the donation after their 10-year-old child began identifying as transgender. “It wasn’t until our own child came out as transgender that we truly understood. Our daughter opened our eyes—in more ways than one—to the fact that something must be done,” Cicchinelli said.

The couple launched the Living With Change Foundation to help other families that seek to provide care for their transgender children. The foundation is “dedicated to providing education, resources, support, and advocacy to families, friends, teachers, and the community while fostering confidence and acceptance through change,” according to its website.

“This … is pivotal in uplifting a community that has been historically marginalized,” Dr. Lee Ann Conard, director of the transgender program at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, said.

Medical research shows 80 to 95 percent of children outgrow their gender dysphoria naturally and accept their biological sex if nature takes its course. There hasn’t been a single long-term randomized study on the effects of hormone-blocking treatments on children, and no laws govern or regulate hormone-blocker usage.
