Communism, the Bible, and Personal Financial Literacy to Be Taught in Texas Schools

The Texas State Board of Education passed new measures, which were endorsed by Heritage Action, for K-8 schools that reaffirm the teachings of American history, Western values, Christianity, personal financial literacy, and the downsides of communism.
The measures, which include teaching stories referenced in the Bible, will clearly paint the picture of America’s founding history and long-embraced values, Heritage Action argued.
“Texas’ State Board of Education took a major step toward restoring truth in the classroom. America’s story cannot be told honestly without acknowledging the profound influence of the Judeo-Christian values that shaped the Founders’ mindset,” Heritage Action State Director Rebekah Warwick said in a statement to the Daily Signal.
“Texas students deserve an education rooted in historical reality, not woke political revisionism,” she continued. “These new standards ensure that future generations of Texans understand the principles of liberty and faith that helped make America the greatest nation in the world.”
Warwick added that “Heritage Action applauds the Board’s leadership in advancing a curriculum that celebrates our history rather than apologizing for it.”
Other measures approved by the Texas board include language to strengthen English reading and proficiency curricula and update the social studies standards of Essential Knowledge and Skills of the Texas Education Code by adopting newly passed state legislative bills.

For instance, bills adopted for the Texas Education Code include House Bills 27 and 824, and Senate Bill 24 of the 89th Texas Legislature. Senate Bill 24 mandates that classrooms teach the consequences associated with communism, a similar measure to the one enacted into law in Florida in 2025.
After Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed state Rep. David Borrero’s bill to teach the horrors of communism in the state’s public education system in 2023, the state board of education then adopted the legislation as part of its mandatory curriculum last fall.
Other measures adopted by the board include implementing Texas’ House Bill 27 into the state curriculum, which adds a half-credit requirement for personal financial literacy.
House Bill 824 mandates that classrooms include specific civic instruction in high school government courses. The new curriculum also mandates lessons on election laws, government official roles, running for office, and Robert’s Rules of Order.
In a statement posted on X, Chairman of the Texas State Board of Education Aaron Kinsey “praised” the new measures as an opportunity to give the next generation of students to “trace the development of liberty, self-government, free enterprise, and constitutional principles across generations.”
“Students will finally get the full story,” the chairman added. “This is how historians work.”
“Students will see how people, ideas, events, and institutions influenced one another across time rather than studying them as separate topics,” he continued.
These newly adopted measures expand on the ones previously adopted by the state board under the leadership of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.
Last year, for instance, the Texas State Board adopted Senate Bill 10, which mandates that each public classroom display a framed poster or copy at least 16 by 20 inches in size, with readable text, of the Ten Commandments.
