Islamic Terrorism and Socialism Ramp Up Democrat Infighting, Dem Reps Say

A longtime Democrat congressman sounded the alarm on the socialist takeover of the Democratic Party, adding that his party’s leadership is only making room for the extreme wing of Democrats.

“I just found it to be not the same caucus I joined in 2007,” Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., told CNN regarding the House Progressive Caucus. “It had become more the socialist caucus, and most of the leadership was socialist Democrats,” Cohen said. “I didn’t feel comfortable in it.”

Cohen’s remarks come after the Democratic Party has begun to drift apart over its members’ stances on Israel, where some members have recently taken the side of America’s Islamic enemies, such as Iran, Hamas, and Hezbollah.

A 2026 Pew Research Center survey found that 44% of American Muslims support Hamas, Iran’s funded terror proxy responsible for the mass rape, kidnapping, and slaughter of Israeli civilians.

Pew Research noted that around 66% of American Muslims vote Democrat.

“There certainly were not people who were so anti-Israel when I started, and there are within the progressive caucus now,” Cohen said.

A different House Democrat, who was granted anonymity by CNN, added that “you know the DSA [Democratic Socialists of America] is taking over the Democratic Party, and from my perspective, you know, I’ve been very clear that you’ve got to stop them from hijacking the party, because I don’t believe that socialists are Democrats.”

The Democrats who seemed concerned about the socialist uproar in the Democratic Party attributed it in part to the socialist movement’s hatred of Israel, and overwhelming support among socialists for Iran and other Islamic terrorist groups.

Democratic socialist candidates have campaigned with Hamas headbands, refused to comment on the deceased Iranian ayatollah’s death because it would upset Democrat voters, and even called radical Islamic terrorism a “conspiracy theory.”

Recently, DSA released a statement titled “Until Palestinian Liberation,” which says that “DSA stands for the full freedoms and self-determination of the Palestinian people, including the end of Israel’s colonization and occupation of all Arab lands, equality, and the right of all refugees to return to their homes and properties and “affirms, in alignment with Al-Thawabit (the inviolable rights of Palestinians) and international law.”

“If we don’t figure that out for ourselves, then I think we’re going to lose the ability to really engage with our own voters who care deeply about this,” Rep. Becca Balint, D-Vt., told CNN about the party’s plan to redefine antisemitism.

Rep. Greg Landsman, D-Ohio, added, “This is an issue that is dividing us, which weakens us and that’s a problem for the party.”

“I think it’s going to be incumbent on leaders in the party and people who have strong feelings about Israel, regardless of what side you’re on, to find that common ground and then pivot to those things that unite us, that bring us together, and then all focused on the issues that matter most to most voters,” Landsman added.
