Ex-Girlfriend Accuses Graham Platner of Sexual Assault

Graham Platner, Democrat nominee for U.S. Senate in Maine, has been accused of sexual assault by his ex-girlfriend. Platner has denied the allegations.

As first reported by Politico, 41-year-old Maine resident Jenny Racicot dated Platner nearly five years ago. Over the course of three detailed interviews spanning two weeks, she detailed the 2021 alleged assault.

“I remember him grabbing my pelvis and being really forceful of me,” Racicot told Politico. “I remember the specific moment where I thought to myself, like, ‘This is no longer my choice,’” she continued.

Racicot explained the night in detail. She had told him not to come over, but he let himself into her unlocked house. She said she could smell the alcohol on his breath and believed he was “almost blackout drunk.” She tried to separate herself from him, but he followed her to her bedroom, where he reportedly had sex with her.

Platner denied Racicot’s claims to Politico.

“These allegations are troubling, serious, and false. Any accusation of non-consensual behavior is categorically untrue,” he said in a statement to the outlet.

After the story broke, Platner posted a video to X, continuing to deny the assault claims. Some outlets have reported that he is planning on dropping out of the race. He did say, “We are taking the time to reflect on the best path forward.”

Racicot matched with Platner on a dating app in 2019 and says she had consensual relations with him before the alleged assault.

These accusations follow multiple reports of women describing him as volatile and physically intimidating, as reported last month by The New York Times. A list of allegations against the Maine Democrat includes domestic abuse, kidnapping, adultery, and lying about his Nazi tattoo.

According to Maine’s ballot vacancy law, Platner must drop out by July 13 if he decides to exit the race. The state Democratic Party will have until July 27 to pick a replacement. Like the 2024 presidential election, when Democrats replaced President Joe Biden with Vice President Kamala Harris as nominee, there will not be a primary election.

Likely replacements include Maine Gov. Janet Mills, who is term-limited and not running for reelection. There have also been reports of democratic socialist candidates vying for the ticket.

In the spring, Racicot spoke to The New York Times about her relationship with Platner, though she kept the assault claim off the record. She stayed off the record for fear of being known as a rape victim. After she saw how people reacted to Lyndsey Fifield, one of the women named in the final New York Times report, she said she had to come forward with the full story.

Fifield is a Republican, and the story quickly became about her political views. Racicot says one of the reasons she waited so long was because she believed in Platner’s political views and thought he had changed as a person.

“One of the reasons I didn’t come forward sooner was the huge moral conflict that I had between supporting his politics, but not supporting him as a person,” she said. “I just want the truth out there. I just want people to have a whole scope of who he is as a person.”

Jim Deyermond, chair of the Maine GOP, told the Daily Signal that the latest allegations show that Platner is not fit to join the U.S. Senate.

“We’ve known from the beginning that Graham Platner is a scandalous scumbag. The latest news about him sexually assaulting a woman in 2021 is just more proof that he was never fit to represent Maine. He has no integrity and has no respect for women, or anyone for that matter,” Deyermond said.

“It’s disgusting and shameful that Maine Democrats continue to support him, because he’s clearly out of control.”

Platner’s campaign did not respond to the Daily Signal’s request for comment by the time of publication.

In this book, O’Neil reveals how the Left’s NGO apparatus pursues its woke agenda, maneuvering like an octopus by circumventing Congress and entrenching its interests in the federal government.
