Corporation for Public Broadcasting Shutting Down

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting–which funds NPR and PBS–is shutting down, it announced on Friday. 

This follows the Congress voting to cut the funding for the CPB. 

In a press release, the CPB said it will begin an “orderly winddown.” 

“Despite the extraordinary efforts of millions of Americans who called, wrote, and petitioned Congress to preserve federal funding for CPB, we now face the difficult reality of closing our operations,” said CPB President and CEO Patricia Harrison in a public statement. “CPB remains committed to fulfilling its fiduciary responsibilities and supporting our partners through this transition with transparency and care.”

National Public Radio, and the Public Broadcasting System have been widely criticized for for liberal bias for years. 

“It’s good news that the CPB says it’s closing up shop. They’ve still been hoping to get Congress to turn around and fund them again. But the Senate appropriators didn’t include them in their bill this week,” Tim Graham, director of media analysis for the Media Research Center, a conservative media watchdog group, told The Daily Signal. “It’s long past time for PBS and NPR to stop taking the money of conservative and Republican taxpayers to smear and malign their movement and their leaders. “

The majority of CPB staff positions will end with the close of the fiscal year on Sept. 30, according to the CPB, and a small transition team will remain until January 2026.
