“There is only one solution: intifada revolution!” campus radicals chanted last week at Princeton University, Tufts University, the University of Maryland, and other collleges nationwide.
If these students’ call for “one solution” to the “problem” of the Jewish state reminds you of Nazi Germany’s so-called Final Solution, there’s a reason for that: The chant was inspired by the Nazis.
“Intifada,” an Arabic word meaning “shuddering” or “shaking off,” is the term applied to several waves of terrorism against Israeli civilians starting in the late 1980s, including the bombings of pizza parlors, night clubs, and public buses.
Let’s set aside the fact that calls for violent revolution are incompatible with calls for a cease-fire and reveal that these protesters really just want Israel to stop defending itself while they encourage Hamas to continue its violence against Israeli civilians. The demand for a single violent “solution” in the context of Jews and the Jewish state has its origins in the shared ideology of Hamas and the Nazis.
The phrase “there is only one solution” is adapted from Article 13 of the Hamas Covenant of 1988: “There is no solution for the Palestinian question except through Jihad.”
The same covenant explains that “it is possible for the followers of the three religions—Islam, Christianity and Judaism—to coexist in peace and quiet with each other,” but that this state of peace “would not be possible except under the wing of Islam.”
In other words, Hamas believes that there can only be peace with Jews and Christians if they are under the thumb of the caliphate.
Hamas inherited this phrase from Haj Amin al-Husseini, the grand mufti of Jerusalem, who worked closely with the Muslim Brotherhood from which Hamas developed. Husseini lived in Nazi Germany from 1941 to 1945, where he aided the Nazi war effort by, among other things, broadcasting Nazi propaganda to the Arab world.
Just as Hamas falsely accuses Israel of genocide while harboring genocidal aims itself, Husseini accused the Jews of wanting to “wipe out the Arabs and Islam,” all the while praising the Nazis for having “decided to find a definitive solution to the Jewish danger.”
As professor Joseph S. Spoerl of Saint Anselm College has documented, “Husseini often went beyond calling for the ethnic cleansing of Jews from Muslim lands and openly incited genocide.” Husseini exhorted Muslims: “Kill the Jews wherever you find them. This pleases God, history, and religion.” (emphasis in Spoerl’s original). The mufti also “urged all Arabs and Muslims to join the Germans in this ‘common battle against the Jewish danger.’”
As Spoerl notes, Husseini’s worldview “lives on, for it is the worldview of the Muslim Brotherhood and its Palestinian branch, which adopted the name of Hamas in 1987-88.” The professor adds:
In its statement of foundational principles, the Hamas Covenant (or Charter), Hamas asserts that there is a vast Zionist conspiracy, comprising B’nai B’rith, the Freemasons, the Lions Club, and the Rotary Club, among others, which controls the international media and financial system. […] Given that Hamas’ Zionist adversary allegedly aims to ‘annihilate Islam,’ it is no understatement when the Hamas Covenant points out that ‘our fight with the Jews is very extensive and very grave …’ Contrary to what some authors have written, the Hamas Covenant still accurately reflects the thinking of the Hamas leadership.
Here we find a virtual carbon copy of Hitler’s paranoid conviction that a Jewish conspiracy aimed to destroy the German people, transposed into an Islamic context with the aim now being the annihilation of Islam. Like the Mufti before it, Hamas concludes from the gravity of the threat to Islam that no peace with the Zionist/Jewish enemy is possible. Article 13 of the Hamas Covenant states: ‘There is no solution to the Palestinian problem except by jihad. Initiatives, proposals, and international conferences are a waste of time and a farce.’ [citations omitted]
In other words, Husseini’s admiration for Hitler’s “Final Solution” to eliminate the Jewish people became the “no solution … except jihad” of Hamas, which seeks to eliminate the Jewish state and all the Jews living in it.
Now, “useful idiots” at pro-Hamas rallies on college campuses are chanting, “There is only one solution: intifada revolution.”
