A violent weekend of Marxist-Islamist protests rocked Europe, from Portugal to Italy. The worst carnage erupted across France, where rioters torched the revered, architecturally stunning town hall of Limoges. The 143-year-old landmark is a protected national monument. Its roof caved in, and its iconic bell tower collapsed into the flames.
Is this kind of mayhem headed to America next?
My latest League of American Workers poll, in the battleground state of Arizona, clearly shows that Americans reject the mass migration and philosophical extremism now afflicting Europe. Nonetheless, the risks here are very real.
Sadly, current trends suggest that the growing “red-green” alliance of hardcore leftists and radical Islamists in the United States could produce exactly this kind of disorder and destruction here, if we are not vigilant—and if the looming elections go poorly for nationalist candidates.
This new Marxist-jihadi alliance grows more visible as the midterms approach. Last week, openly socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., barnstormed Michigan with pro-Sharia law Muslim candidate Abdul El-Sayed and steered $1 million toward his Senate bid against Republican Mike Rogers. This is the same Abdul El-Sayed whose campaign is being dogged by past admissions from his half-sister that their family “has long been Muslim Brotherhood,” a designated terrorist organization.
Admittedly, these political factions make a strange political marriage, and they clearly disagree on many topics, especially social issues.

So, what binds this dangerous new merger?
A common enemy. They both hate Western civilization. In turn, they despise the United States because we are, in the words of President Donald Trump, the “culmination of thousands of years of Western civilization.” They also loathe Christianity as the font of that worldview for the last two millennia.
So, at least for now, they form an uneasy but formidable alliance to destroy, suppress, and force submission. They seek political power through both force and mass migration.
Like a new Khmer Rouge, leftist nihilists would return us to “Year Zero” and extinguish history and tradition. This poisonous worldview drives them to deface and burn the most treasured buildings and works of art in the Western canon.
As they commit these heinous acts, they don Che Guevara shirts and wave Muslim flags in the cities of once-Christian Europe. In centuries past, Europe’s brave leaders risked everything to save the continent from the Moors and the sultans. Now, Europe’s ruling class acquiesces to and even encourages the marauders.
Will America be different?
Clearly, voters demand a wholly different approach. First, on the radicalism of the Europeans, voters in this Arizona survey resoundingly reject socialism as a governing agenda. Capitalism earns a net positive approval rating of 36%, while socialism sinks to a net negative approval rating of 34%.
That massive 70-point gap shows that the American people have not turned en masse against a market economy. But—and this point is key—they massively disapprove of the current economic trajectory, with a scant 17% saying their financial situation has improved over the last year.
So this poll presents a mixed bag, and it points to the urgent need to end the war against Iran and return to the task of restoring broad domestic prosperity.
On immigration, this poll proves that Americans have had enough of mass migration, especially Islamic migration. Overall, only 20% of Arizonans say migration has made our society better. That’s a stunningly low number for a border state. Asked specifically about Islamic migration, only 17% say it has made America better.
The intensity of these responses matters a lot, too. On mass Muslim migration, only 7% feel very positive, while 38% feel very negative. That greater than 5-to-1 margin shows that sensible patriots simply do not want to travel down Europe’s road.
So, in these closing weeks of the campaign, patriotic populist candidates should use Europe’s example to motivate the America First base, which is often reluctant to vote in midterm elections. Even voters who are understandably frustrated by economic angst must see the alternative: Radical Democrats would literally give our country away to hordes who hate our values and detest our way of life.
Tolerating a totally intolerant ideology is not noble. There’s nothing virtuous about whistling past the graveyard. We should not surrender America to a hostile movement that despises our values and what makes us great. Pro-Western candidates must be courageous and say this plainly in the final weeks.
If they do, I’m confident American voters will embrace their nation’s inheritance and work to defend and advance Western civilization.
