The Heritage Foundation announced Wednesday the upcoming release of its newly revised “The Heritage Guide to the Constitution.”
Set to come out Oct. 14, the fully revised third edition features 216 essays from over 150 contributors, providing a clause-by-clause analysis of the Constitution.
First published in 2005 by former Attorney General Edwin Meese III and then republished in 2014, the guide is intended to provide a starting point for those seeking to interpret the Constitution under an originalist framework.
“The time is now right for a third edition of ‘The Heritage Guide to the Constitution,’” said Meese. “I am confident that this volume will serve a new generation of lawyers, professors, students, and ordinary citizens who are deeply committed to the jurisprudence of originalism I spoke about four decades ago.”
This edition will feature a preface from Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, as well as a foreword from Meese.
“‘We the people’ adopted the Constitution, and it is important that all Americans understand what our founding document means,” said Alito. “Since the publication of the first edition 20 years ago, ‘The Heritage Guide to the Constitution’ has been an invaluable resource for judges, lawyers, and the public at large.”

“The new third edition of the guide retains the virtues of its predecessors while deepening the discussion of how constitutional provisions were understood when they were adopted,” Alito concluded.
