Trump Visits Georgia to Discuss Trump Accounts, as Candidates Discuss Future of Georgia

President Donald Trump and gubernatorial candidate Rick Jackson visited Wheeler High School in Cobb County on Wednesday, where Jackson pledged that, if elected governor, he would match Trump Accounts for Georgia’s children.
While on stage, Trump highlighted the benefits of Trump Accounts, namely, that American children born between the beginning of 2025 and the end of 2028 can claim a Trump Account of $1,000. Each family can invest an additional $5,000 per year in each account.
After thanking Trump for his work and efforts, Jackson said, “I want to announce, when I become governor, I’m going to push the state of Georgia to match the federal contribution with another $1,000.”
“I believe our Legislature will approve that,” he continued. “If they don’t, I will personally donate it myself.”
Trump highlighted the investments and donations that have been poured into the Trump Accounts program, declaring, “In the past 18 days, nearly $1.5 billion have been deposited to the Trump Accounts.”
Jackson mentioned his own childhood, specifically in the foster care system. He praised first lady Melania Trump for creating and starting her “Fostering the Future” initiative.

Several other candidates running for election joined the president and Jackson at the high school. Speakers included candidate for lieutenant governor Greg Dolezal, attorney general candidate Sen. Brian Strickland, and secretary of state candidate Rep. Tim Fleming.
Keisha Lance Bottoms, the Democrat candidate for governor, commented on the event, saying, “Today, Rick Jackson stood next to Donald Trump to again pledge he will be Trump’s ‘favorite governor,’” News From the States reported.
Bottoms’ comment comes at a potentially transitional time for Georgia.
In recent years, Georgia has been considered a swing state, and Cobb County is no exception. Election data show the county, which was historically a red region, has turned blue since the 2016 election. In the 2024 presidential election, Kamala Harris won nearly 57% of the vote over Trump.
However, Fleming rallied the crowd, declaring, “This is a red state. We proved it in 2020, we proved it in 2024, and we’re going to prove it yet again this year in 2026.”
Rep. Mike Collins, the Republican candidate running for U.S. Senate, was unable to make it to the event. Trump commented on his absence, stating, “I also want to thank a man who had to stay back in Washington to vote for making America great again. Maybe the most important man in this room right now is not here.”
Trump continued by stating that the upcoming vote Collins has is critical and affects “military, farming, and other important things.”
