Daily Signal Internship
The Daily Signal Institute seeks motivated students and aspiring journalists for its semester-long internship program. Interns work alongside Daily Signal reporters, editors, producers, and digital media professionals, gaining hands-on experience in a fast-paced newsroom while contributing to meaningful journalism. This immersive program provides opportunities to strengthen reporting, writing, video, social media, and production skills while learning from experienced mentors committed to developing the next generation of storytellers. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis for spring, summer, and fall internships.
Position Overview
The internship program is designed to provide students and aspiring journalists with meaningful, hands-on experience in a professional newsroom while contributing to our mission of delivering impactful journalism.
- Interns receive mentorship from experienced reporters, editors, and producers, along with opportunities to develop their reporting, writing, video, social media, and digital storytelling skills.
- The program encourages creativity, initiative, and excellence across a variety of media platforms while emphasizing accuracy, integrity, and compelling storytelling.
- Participants will have the opportunity to collaborate on journalism projects, cover issues of national importance, and make valuable contributions to Daily Signal content reaching audiences across the world.
Job Duties
- Research news topics, policy issues, and current events.
- Assist reporters and editors with story development and background research.
- Write news briefs, article summaries, and other short-form content.
- Fact-check and proofread content prior to publication.
- Upload, format, and publish content using newsroom platforms.
- Select images and multimedia assets for articles and digital content.
- Assist with video, podcast, and social media production.
- Help optimize content with tags, keywords, and metadata.
- Monitor media coverage, audience trends, and competitor activity.
- Compile and analyze website, video, and social media performance metrics.
- Participate in newsroom meetings, training sessions, and mentorship opportunities.

Qualifications
- Current undergraduate or recent graduate pursuing a degree in journalism, communications, political science, public policy, or a related field.
- Prior experience with student media, journalism internships, digital content creation, video production, or podcasting.
- Strong writing, editing, research, and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with WordPress, social media platforms, Adobe Creative Suite, or video editing tools.

- Self-motivated, adaptable, and willing to take ownership of projects while contributing as part of a team.

- Compensation: Interns earn an hourly wage of $18.50.
- Location: The internship is based at the Daily Signal’s Capitol Hill headquarters in Washington, D.C.
- Housing: Interns receive preferred access to space in a nearby intern residence. While housing costs are the responsibility of the intern, this option provides convenient and competitively priced accommodations. Additional information is provided to selected candidates.
- Schedule: Opportunities are available on both a full-time and part-time basis during the spring and fall semesters. Summer interns are expected to participate full-time.
- Eligibility: Applications are welcome from undergraduate students, graduate students, law students, recent graduates, and early-career professionals.
- International Applicants: Candidates who are authorized to work in the United States may be considered for internship opportunities.
