Few topics bring out media bias more than the issue of abortion. This week was a perfect example of that.
Virginia state Delegate Kathy Tran, a Democrat from Fairfax County, introduced a bill that, the lawmaker acknowledged Monday, would allow abortions to be performed as a woman is giving birth.
Then Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam, a Democrat, followed this up with a defense of the bill Wednesday that actually managed to seem more extreme than the original proposal.
Of course, the media framed this not as Democrats wanting to kill babies, but as Republicans attacking Democrats.
The Washington Post—the huge local newspaper—didn’t even mention the Virginia legislation for hours after the state delegate’s comments were trending on twitter.
When this story began to blow up, the Post actually ran with the headline: “Va. Gov. Northam faces fierce conservative backlash over abortion bill,” as if the conservative reaction was the story rather than the fact that Northam was promoting what seemed to be infanticide and eugenics.

The Post published an article headlined “Abortion bill draws GOP outrage against Va. Gov. Northam, Democratic legislators.” Then it doubled down, publishing a story headlined “Until this week, Del. Kathy Tran was known for nursing her daughter on the House floor. Now Republicans are calling her a baby killer.”
It’s telling that pro-life conservatives are constantly pressed by the media on their positions regarding cases dealing with rape and incest, for instance, yet pro-choice progressives seemingly don’t have to answer for beliefs that condone what most Americans would find to be an extremist position.
Northam suggested that children with deformities or disabilities might justify termination at birth, a mortifying idea in a republic based on the concept that all men are created equal and endowed by their creator by inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Media coverage of abortion in particular has been shamefully biased or selectively nonexistent.
This, among so many other reasons, is why they American people don’t trust the press.
