FIRST ON THE DAILY SIGNAL—Vice President JD Vance will swear in Colin McDonald on Wednesday morning to lead the Department of Justice’s anti-fraud division.
“This is a huge step towards achieving the administration’s whole of government approach to rooting out fraud and finding the criminals and fraudsters who have taken advantage of American taxpayers for far too long,” a Vance spokesperson told The Daily Signal in a statement. “Colin McDonald will be a valuable asset to the War on Fraud as assistant attorney general.”
The Senate confirmed McDonald, an experienced federal prosecutor, on March 25 to serve as assistant attorney general of the DOJ.
President Donald Trump created the new DOJ division to “catch and stop FRAUDSTERS that have been STEALING from the American People,” he wrote on Truth Social on Jan. 28.
Vance celebrated McDonald’s confirmation, saying, “For far too long, illegal alien fraudsters and criminals have been allowed to scam Americans out of their hard-earned tax dollars.”
“That stops now,” he said. “Colin McDonald will be a key asset to the DOJ and the President’s War on Fraud.”
Vance announced the creation of the new position in January. Trump nominated McDonald about two weeks later.
McDonald has served as a top aide to the second in command at the DOJ for the past year. Prior to coming to Washington, he served as a federal prosecutor.
