This independent contractor role requires consistent weekday availability and the ability to turn around time-sensitive video content with accuracy and speed.

The contractor will be responsible for editing interview segments, supporting live-show production through research assistance, and helping prepare uploads and simulcast elements. Key Responsibilities

  • Edit approximately 3–5 interview segments per week, generally 5–20 minutes each.
  • Receive raw footage and deliver finalized edits by 5 p.m. ET on weekdays.
  • Occasionally turn around clips independently (approximately once per week to start, with potential for additional assignments based on hours available).
  • Assist in researching and gathering relevant clips, news items, and background material for the show throughout the day as needed.
  • Support the nightly live show by acting as a live research reference, beginning 30 minutes prior to the show and continuing through its duration.
  • Assist in creating, preparing, and scheduling titles, descriptions, and upload materials for video platforms, simulcasts, or podcast releases.
  • Ensure all produced content meets high audio and video quality standards before delivery.
  • Maintain smooth communication with the production team regarding file handoffs, deadlines, and project status.
  • Follow The Daily Signal and The Tony Kinnett Cast brand guidelines, including basic graphic elements as needed (e.g., chyrons, on-screen text).
  • Adapt to editorial feedback and follow specific formatting or stylistic directions.

Qualifications

  • Education: Associate degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Experience:
    • 1–2 years of experience using professional video-editing tools (Adobe Premiere Pro or comparable NLE software).
    • Experience in fast-turnaround or news-adjacent environments preferred, but not required.
    • Training available for candidates with strong technical aptitude.
  • Skills:
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to manage files, assets, and deadlines efficiently.
    • Capacity to work under pressure and meet same-day turnaround requirements.
    • High attention to detail and willingness to learn new workflows or tools.
  • Technical Ability:
    • Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro (or ability to learn quickly).
    • Basic familiarity with social-platform uploads, YouTube descriptions, and thumbnail or simple graphic creation is a plus.

Other Requirements

  • Strict weekday afternoon availability to meet the 5 p.m. ET delivery deadline.
  • Understanding and support of The Daily Signal’s mission and values.
  • Reliability in meeting contracted deadlines and maintaining open communication.
