Mehek Cooke is joining The Daily Signal today as senior national security and legal analyst, further strengthening our news outlet’s coverage of immigration, border security, and national defense.
Cooke brings more than a decade of experience as an attorney, strategist, and media analyst focused on national security, immigration law, and a host of other policy issues. In her new role, she will lead The Daily Signal’s coverage of national security and immigration issues, delivering original reporting, analysis, and commentary across digital and broadcast platforms.
“I’m excited to join The Daily Signal at a time when national security and the rule of law are central to so many debates shaping the country,” Cooke said. “This is a newsroom committed to serious reporting and clear analysis, and I look forward to contributing coverage that helps readers better understand the legal and policy decisions coming out of Washington.”
Before joining The Daily Signal, Cooke served as president of American Frontier Strategies, where she provided legal and strategic counsel on immigration law, regulatory compliance, public policy, and crisis communications for corporate clients, political campaigns, and public officials.
Experience in Law, Government, and Politics
Cooke served as an official surrogate for President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign, representing the campaign’s legal and political positions across national media. In addition, she held senior legal roles in Ohio state government, including as general counsel at the Ohio Department of Agriculture and assistant general counsel to the Ohio governor.
Her government service spans federal and state levels—from her work as a terrorism analyst with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Ohio and as a national security and terrorism analyst overseas. She worked for the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Political-Military Affairs, focusing on Middle East arms transfer compliance, foreign military funding, and congressional reporting on U.S. defense sales.
Cooke is a graduate of Indiana University Maurer School of Law and holds a master’s degree in political science, with a thesis focused on accountability and oversight in counterterrorism policy.
In addition to her legal experience, Cooke is a frequent media contributor and political analyst, regularly appearing on Fox News, Newsmax, and other national TV programs to analyze immigration enforcement, election law, national security developments, and campaign dynamics. Drawing on her experience in law, government, and politics, she offers grounded on-air commentary on news of the day, ranging from policy developments in Washington to the electoral conversations defining the 2026 midterms and the road to 2028.
“Mehek’s ability to clearly explain complex legal and policy issues will enhance our ability to deliver on The Daily Signal’s mission of timely and truthful journalism,” said Keith Koffler, managing editor and assistant director of The Daily Signal.
More Recent Additions to Daily Signal
Cooke will work closely with Matt Hadro, who joined The Daily Signal as news editor in December. Hadro oversees the publication’s original reporting and brings extensive experience covering Congress, the Supreme Court, and the White House, along with senior communications leadership in the nonprofit and political space.
She will also collaborate with Felix Miller, The Daily Signal’s commentary editor, who began his role in February. Miller previously served as a senior editor at The European Conservative and has published widely on politics, culture, and public policy, bringing a strong editorial voice to the outlet’s opinion and analysis sections.
Cooke’s addition follows other recent hires to bolster The Daily Signal, including Virginia Grace McKinnon and Pedro Rodriguez as journalism fellows, and Abigail Matsuyoshi as administrative assistant.
With policy debates playing out in Washington and across the world, The Daily Signal remains committed to serving its growing audience with a promise of truthful reporting and principled conservative commentary.
