Democrat Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania has a high approval rating among Republicans and a low approval rating among Democrats in his home state, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll.
The swing state lawmaker has regularly departed from the Democrat caucus in the Senate and has criticized fellow Democrats’ stances on Israel, immigration, and government funding.
According to the poll, a whopping 73% of Pennsylvania Republicans approved “of the way John Fetterman is handling his job as United States Senator.”
A mere 18% of Republicans disapproved of the Democrat senator’s performance and 9% did not know or did not answer.
With Democrats, the picture is flipped. Only 22% of Democrats approved of Fetterman’s performance, and 62% disapproved. Fifteen percent did not know or chose not to answer.
Fetterman told The Daily Signal in the U.S. Capitol on Thursday that he had not seen the poll and that “my votes and my values are pretty much consistent, and it’s never based on polls.”
Fetterman has split from fellow Democrat senators to vote for Republican-backed funding bills to keep federal departments operating.
Fetterman has also voted to confirm members of President Donald Trump’s Cabinet, such as Kristi Noem of the Department of Homeland Security and Attorney General Pam Bondi.
He has, however, sided with Democrats in opposing the majority of Trump’s Cabinet picks. He also voted against the One Big Beautiful Bill Act as well as a bill rescinding funding of foreign aid and public broadcasting.
Fetterman roughly split independents, 48% of whom approved and 37% of whom disapproved of his performance. Fifteen percent did not know or did not answer.
Overall, 46% of respondents approved of his job performance and 40% disapproved, with 14% not knowing or choosing not to answer.
The survey questioned “836 self-identified registered voters” from Feb. 19 to Feb. 23 and has a margin of error of 4.7 percentage points.
A spokesperson for Fetterman’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Daily Signal on the survey’s results.
