Black Patriots Who Helped Keep America Free

The African American Civil War Memorial sculpture, called "The Spirit of Freedom and the Wall of Honor," and pictured in April 2012, stands in the U Street district of Washington, D.C. A sailor and two soldiers are depicted on the front; the back shows a family as the son leaves for war. Created by sculptor Ed Hamilton, the monument was dedicated in July 1998. Philip Reynolds, digital specialist with The Heritage Foundation, joins “The Right Side of History” to discuss the 54th Massachusetts—one of the first black regiments of the Civil War—and other black patriots throughout U.S. history.

“The Right Side of History” is a podcast dedicated to exploring current events through a historical lens and busting left-wing myths about figures and events of America’s past.
