After 10 months of serving his country in Afghanistan, Joey Johnson, 27, met his soulmate, Michelle. Four months later, while riding his motorcycle (an adrenaline rush that helped him manage his post-traumatic stress disorder) he was in a tragic accident.

The accident left Joey with a severe spinal injury. But it didn’t end the love Michelle had for him.

“Joey is still the same person, funny and loving guy he was before,” Michelle told Fox News. “He had to learn a different way of life with him and his chair: from showering, getting dressed and trying to function every day. But we are soulmates.”

At their wedding on June 28, 2013, Joey surprised Michelle with a harness that allowed him to stand eye-to-eye for a wedding dance.

“He made my dreams come true,” Michelle said, “and I never knew how special our day would really be.”
