Lawmakers in Washington cut a deal on the dreaded fiscal cliff last month — hiking taxes without cutting much spending. Now, President Obama wants to backtrack on even the little spending he agreed to cut as part of sequestration. Today, he called for a stalling of important spending cuts that would begin to help heal the country’s massive deficit.

Heritage President-elect Jim DeMint appeared on Fox News’ “Your World with Neil Cavuto” this afternoon to discuss the President’s plan to stall the spending cuts.

“The federal government will receive record, historically high tax revenues this year — yet we’ve doubled spending over the last 10 years,” DeMint said.

DeMint emphasized the importance of Congress’ coming to agreement on a plan to balance the budget in the next 10 years.

“The President is distracting from the real conversation,” said DeMint. “We’ve got to cut spending. … We need to make a commitment to balance the budget in 10 years.”
