I read Brian's dissertation on farm subsidies. My sister and I own our parents farm (200 acres) which from 1946 to 1994 along with Dad doing carpentry on the side, supplied their yearly income. Dad never applied for any subsidies, but through frugal saving and micromanagement of every penny, he put back nearly a million dollars for his and Mom's retirement. At the present time with about half tilled and half pasture, produces about $20,000 a year before expenses. After it is all said and done, I don't think that Brian is all the way correct in his opinions in his article about subsidies. What subsidies do is hopefully punish the commodities speculators with higher taxes to compensate the farmer for the low per bushel price right during and after harvest???
Brian probably has never lived on a farm to see the daily work and expenses, so how would he really know anything about the real situation????
I all oil fossil fuel or natural oil miles below the earth's surface?
