Senator Barack Obama said the following about the Harriet Miers nomination to the Supreme Court according to Greg Sargent in The Plum Line (Washington Post) in 2005:
Harriet Miers has had a distinguished career as a lawyer, but since her experience does not include serving as a judge, we have yet to know her views on many of the critical constitutional issues facing our country today. In the coming weeks, we’ll need as much information and forthright testimony from Ms. Miers as possible so that the U.S. Senate can make an educated and informed decision on her nomination to the Supreme Court.
To comply with the Obama Standard, the Senate should be provided with information, through testimony and documents, to allow the Senate to properly assess Kagan’s views on “many of the critical constitutional issues facing our country today.” Elena Kagan wrote in 1995 that:
When the Senate ceases to engage nominees in a meaningful discussion of legal issues, the confirmation process takes on an air of vacuity and farce, and the Senate becomes incapable of either properly evaluating nominees or appropriately educating the public.
Both the Obama and Kagan Standard should be followed by the Senate during the confirmation process of Solicitor General Elena Kagan to the high court.

Every nominee should be asked and expected to give reasonable answers to queries about their experience, writings, rulings and the Constitution of the United States. Same would be true of the nominees of the next President too!.
As I've said before, if confirmed Kagan will be nothing more than Obama and company's political insider on the Supreme bench. Just more of the Left's fulfillment of their socialist power grab. If liberals wanted "CHANGE", they and the rest of the nation are sure getting it. Problem is, it's all backwards and destructive to our security and liberty. I can't think of a better way to undermine the strength of having a union of states. I've never been one for secession. But the current congressional leadership and president are continuing to move our country closer to the edge of an abyss. Things need to drastically turn around this November.
How do you get to be nominated for the Supreme Court when you have never been a Judge? That would be like working in a hospital without your RN License. Experience is the best teacher. Even a new nurse needs experience to be effective, so how does a lawyer that has only been a Dean, become a nominee for the Supreme Court? I'm shocked at this nomination. Many "Dean" appointments are political and I'm tired of people being so impressed with being "Dean" of any school. Obama is making it look like he is placing "women" on the Supreme Court and this is somehow "historical" because AGAIN he is looking to fulfill his socialistic agenda and looking for votes. He is also nominating people that will do his bidding.
