Thanks for posting General Petraeus' briefing on the effects of the Surge. I was one of General Odierno's two Surge planners and it gives me a great deal of satisifaction to see the great work our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and civilians have done to secure the population, transition much of the security efforts to the Iraqis, support an Iraqi political dialogue and reduce Iraq's extremist safe havens. This will be one of the most important enterprises I had the chance to take part in in my life. Thanks again for posting General Petraeus' briefing.

[…] Statements by General Petraeus undercut McCain. Earlier this week, General David Petraeus delivered a speech at the conservative Heritage Foundation that undermined several positions held by Senator McCain. Petraeus first undercut McCain’s fervent support for using the “same strategy” in Afghanistan that was used in Iraq, by saying bluntly “every situation is unique.” “Petraeus also came out unambiguously in his talk at Heritage for opening communications with America’s adversaries, a position McCain is attacking Obama for endorsing. Citing his Iraq experience, Petraeus said, ‘You have to talk to enemies.’” Finally, on Pakistan, an area where McCain has criticized rival Barack Obama for stating his intention to strike at al-Qaeda safe-havens, Petraeus addressed “the need to ‘take away and hold the strongholds and safe havens’ possessed by Al Qaeda in Iraq during 2007 and 2008, saying that without doing so, the rest of the counterinsurgency strategy ‘won’t work.’” For McCain, who for months has “wrapped himself in the mantle” of General Petraeus, the speech was damaging. […] McCain has constantly mocked Obama by saying Barack’s attitude of negotiating with our enemies is a clear indication of his lack of experience in foreign policy matters. McCain also cites Gen. Petraeus as often as he can as he tries to use his support of “the surge” to demonstrate his judgement. Well, Gen. Petraeus just destroyed his argument with his appearance at the Heritage Foundation. […] at levels not seen since early 2004.” Speaking at the Heritage Foundation earlier this month, General David Petraeus noted that attacks had decreased from a high of 180 per day in 2007 to 25 per day. 25 is better than 180, […]
MY SUPPORT FOR GENERAL PETRAEUS IS SO GREAT. HE MASTERED THE IRAQ WAR WITH THE SURGE. MC CAIN SUPPORTED IT. THAT IS THE PROOF OF ALL. THE AFGHANISTAN SITUATION IS SEPERATE. IRAN IS ANOTHER SITUATION. LETS FACE IT OBAMA HAS ALWAYS MADE THE WRONG DECISION. THIS WAR IS SO VITAL TO GET IT TO END. DO YOU ALL REALIZE THAT SOLDIERS ARE LIVING BECAUSE OF THE SURGE. DO NOT TRY TO PUT MC CAIN DOWN. HE IS A REAL PATRIOT. NOT JUST A COMMUNITY ORGANIZER.
WHEN WILL WE LEARN THAT WE HAVE THE WRONG PERSON AS PRESIDENT…THE FANNIE MAE AND FREDDIE MAC REFORM ACT OF 2005 WAS NEVER PASSED BY THE DEMOCRATS. WHAT AM I TELLING YOU ALL. IT IS BLACK AND WHITE..MC CAIN PRESSED THEM TO OVERSEE AND REGULATE IT AND THEY DID NOT. OUR ECONOMY IS AT SO BAD THAT WE NEED A GEN PETRAEUS TO GET IT DONE WITH MC CAIN BY HIS SIDE. CUT GOV. SPENDING. NO MORE PORK. AND KEEP EVERYONE IN THERE HOMES…
